MidBritain - Insight into the UK's Superconsumers

Meet MidBritain

MidBritons are the sort of people you want to know. After all, they are the economic backbone of Britain. They have the collective ability to sway financial markets, choose political leaders, and make or break a brand. They have power, and more than that, they aren’t afraid to use it. A highly influential group of individuals, they represent 47% of our population and 51% of consumer spending. They are educated, politically minded, technologically savvy, opinionated and ready and willing to make a difference.

Surprised? There’s more. Much more.

MidBritons spent more than £257 billion last year alone. On what? On just about everything. Preferring to invest in quality, value and trust, they buy cars, purchase the latest gadgets, invest wisely, shop online and consume high quality (and high quantities of) food and alcohol. They are savvy investors with over half on the constant lookout for ways to invest their money. Financially astute, 87% say that they are in control of their finances.

Not only do they invest, they are high earners. Over two-thirds of those who make £47,000 annually are MidBritons. Since more than a third own their properties, that leaves many MidBritons with a high level of disposable income to play with. While they may value their money, they aren’t afraid to spend it. And they aren’t afraid to influence others on how to spend theirs either.

Research proves that MidBritons are highly effective at influencing lifestyle choices and spending decisions. So much so, they’ve been known to drive consumer trends. For example, at ease with technology, this group owns over half of the UK’s most expensive MP3 players and iPods, and represents 62 percent of all GPS owners.

Not only do MidBritons have persuasive power, they believe that they can make a difference. They are optimistic, inspirational and motivated, driven by self-improvement and the desire for change. They regard themselves as good, ethical and respectful of the opinions and beliefs of others.

So, what does this all mean, exactly? It means it’s about time to cast your traditional notions of Middle England aside, and properly introduce yourself to MidBritain. This site allows you to do just that.
