MidBritons have a healthy attitude towards food. They love food, but good food. The majority of them shop at large supermarkets but they also supplement this through supporting local stores and searching good quality produce at farmers markets.

 In the last six months…

  • Virtually everyone (97%) shopped in large supermarkets
  • Over half (51%) shopped at small high street supermarkets
  • 6 in 10 support local grocery stores
  • 40% go to farmers markets to buy quality fresh produce

They are regular shoppers in the big three supermarkets. The favourites are:

  • Tesco
  • Sainsbury’s
  • Marks & Spencers
  • Asda
  • Morrisons
  • Waitrose

Tesco gets 38p share on every £1 that MidBritons spends in these 5 stores…

  • Sainsbury gets 24p, Asda 14p, Morrisons 12p and Marks & Spencers gets 11p.

MidBritons who use the internet for shopping for ‘convenience’ and ‘saving time’ also shop in-store

  • 1 in 5 have bought groceries online
  • However only 5% do the majority of their grocery shopping online

They have a healthy attitude towards foods but time saving is important also.

  • All buy fresh fruit and vegetables, cereal and fruit juice regularly
  • 6 in 10 buy ready meals for convenience
  • A third buy specialist food products, vitamins, cereal bars and probiotic ranges

MidBritons also buy from the non-food sections of supermarkets.

  • At least three-quarters of MidBritons have also bought flowers, homeware, CDs & DVDs as well as electrical equipment from a supermarket
  • A quarter would also consider buying travel currency, insurance and gas & electricity

Their hunger for quality foods means they’re 50/50 over supermarket ‘own label’ products

  • Currently over half of MidBritons buy a mixture of both own label and branded products
  • 60% agree that own label products are just as good as branded
  • However a fifth say that they only buy branded products
